Gas or Electric Mower?

Hello everyone Rey from kgrdiy, today I want to tell you all Why I bought a gas mower vs an electric.

Over a year ago when I was in the market to buy a mower, I was debating whether to go for an Electric or a Gas powered one. I couldn’t make up my mind because on one hand I see all these gas mowers that have a history of reliability and that are known to be great machines that cut grass over and over and just keep working exceptionally well with the passing of time. This symbolizes to me dependability, loyal machines that will give me my money’s worth as long as I keep up with its maintenance and not hammer it over its limits of course.
On the other hand, we have these new electric mowers that are technologically advanced machines and that’s thanks to these powerful batteries that last far longer than what batteries did 10-20 years ago. There’s been major breakthroughs in the battery industry in recent years that has added more confidence in manufacturers to keep increasing production of electric mowers. We see them everywhere now, and they are serious competitors against the gas-powered ones.
And that’s good because we should always welcome new, different products if they are just as good or better than existing ones. We should always strive for improvement.
I love battery power tools and I own multiple battery powered ones and they work fantastic. They get the job done very well. But for me, a battery powered lawn mower wasn’t something I wanted to go with yet and here’s why.

1. If I run out of gas, I can simply just fill up the tank in a matter of seconds and continue to cut the grass, if I run out of battery juice, well I’ll have to wait until the battery charges again, which can take up to an hour or more in some mowers. I’ve seen many comments in reviews where people complain that they ran out of battery halfway cutting the grass. Unless I were to have a spare battery, I can finish the job, which would be my best bet, to make sure I have a second or even a third battery ready to go just in case. I’ve seen people do just that, they have extra batteries. But this leads to my second point.

2. I would’ve had to get additional batteries and that means more money I must spend. Batteries are not cheap. Some people may argue that you spend more on gas in the long run, and that may be true. But in my opinion, if I would’ve gone for a battery powered mower, I needed to make sure 100% that the batteries on it were very good batteries, because the last thing I would want is to be buying batteries every year or two because the batteries gave out or they lost charge capacity over time. I just didn’t want to take that risk yet. Especially because I see all these new electric mowers flooding the market, and in my opinion, I still need to wait for more reviews and to see which ones withstand the passage of time.
Recently I saw this one specific electric mower brand multiple times in a local flea market I go to, and I mean I saw like 20-30 of them. Many little stands had these mowers for sale. Normally this means these are returns from customers which are then sold in wholesale pallets to people who then resell them at these flea markets. I’m sure this mower brand will get it right soon, maybe the battery they come with are not the best yet. But I don’t doubt they can improve as newer models come out. But like I said I just don’t want to take that risk yet with electric mowers and end up like some of these people returning them because they decided these weren’t the right mowers for them.
I’m sure there's several really good ones out there. If you own a good reliable electric mower that you think is better than a gas one, let me know. I know there are some really good ones, but they're also really expensive.
Let me know in the comments section what type of mower you have and if you recommend it.
